The Moray Gig - Bien Trouvé - is a 38’ replica eighteenth century ship’s longboat or admiral’s gig. She was built in Findhorn in the North East of Scotland and launched in 2000 for use by young people. The gig is unique in design and is the only boat of her type in Scotland. The rig is a 3-masted, dipping lug and the masts may be lowered and the gig rowed with ten oars, the longest of which is 5.6m (18'6"). The gig offers a positive learning experience, teaching traditional seamanship and teamwork skills. It also provides opportunities for social interaction and increasing self-confidence and self esteem. The Gig is available for bookings throughout the season (April to October inclusive) and can provide activities for up to 10 young people on any given session (4 to 5 hours). Partnership Working Moray Gig works in close partnership with Outf!t-Moray, a local charity delivering outdoor activities to young people in Moray. Outf!t-Moray organise the bookings and carry out other administrative arrangements on behalf of the Gig as well as being the primary user. The Moray Gig also works with other local youth and adult organisations to provide programmes, events and outings. The Gig running costs are around £6000.00 per annum. We do charge for our services and generate about 30% of our annual requirement. The remaining sum is sourced from funding agencies and our own fund raising efforts.
List of any products or services we sell etc.
Help wanted: At present we are reviewing how best to maintain and develop the operation as we have come to a point where the time and effort required is probably not sustainable. In this regard we will be discussing outsourcing opportunities with Outf!t-Moray. |
