Events: March

Wednesday 14 March 2012, The Elim Centre, Glasgow

With austerity measures and Westminster budget cuts affecting The Scottish Government, Scotland’s local authorities and public bodies, there will be an inevitable reduction in spending on public services.

With Social Impact Bond pilots in place in England, we ask if this model, or an equivalent, could help fund outcomes based programmes through private investment. Will this allow Scotland’s third sector to deliver high quality services, create a fairer society with greater opportunity and potentially generate long term savings to the public purse?

The Social Impact Bonds conference, organised by Spectrum Outsourced Solutions, in partnership with Social Enterprise Scotland, Quarriers, Crossreach, Cornerstone, The Clydesdale Bank, The Co-operative Bank and Social Finance, will examine whether the Social Investment Bond model or an equivalent can work in Scotland. As a member of Social Enterprise Scotland, you are entitled to a discounted rate of £65 per delegate. Please enter the promotion code “SES” when booking your place to receive this preferential rate.

The Social Enterprise Exchange

More details and book places here.

Social Enterprise Scotland and Social Enterprise UK have joined forces to create what will be the world’s biggest event in the sector. ‘The Social Enterprise Exchange’ will take place on Tuesday 27th March 2012 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow.

The two umbrella organisations have decided to bring together Voice and the S2S Fair to stage a bigger event for social enterprises north and south of the border. ‘The Social Enterprise Exchange’ will see 1,250 delegates and 150 exhibitors under one roof and provide a platform for them to do business, share knowledge and best practice.

‘The Social Enterprise Exchange’, being delivered by the social enterprise CEiS Events, will also cater for those working in the public, private and voluntary sectors interested in moving into the social enterprise sphere. Delegates are expected from Canada, Australia, USA and Finland, who want to find out what makes the UK the world leader in social enterprise.

Laurie Russell, Chair of Social Enterprise Scotland, said:

“The Social Enterprise Exchange will showcase the strength, talent and diversity of social enterprises across the UK. I’m delighted we are joining forces from all parts of Britain and that the event is to be held in Glasgow. Hopefully the debate and discussion will help the sector to develop further, reach new markets and boost our position in the British economy as a whole.”

Peter Holbrook, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise UK, said:

“We’re really excited about working with Social Enterprise Scotland to put on the world’s biggest social enterprise event. Our combined efforts on The Social Enterprise Exchange will make for a rich and fruitful day for delegates, filled with opportunity and high quality programme content. We want delegates to go away feeling inspired, better informed, and with a list of new business contacts.”
