We use the word ‘investment’ quite literally here. The idea is to find projects with commercial prospects that will generate a suitable return for investors. Borrowers must have a social as well as economic purpose, and soundly based plans and projections. It is not the primary purpose of Ekopia to seek donations for worthy non-commercial ventures although we do welcome such support for the community. With the support of the Hygeia
Foundation, Ekopia launched a new community currency in May 2002 - the Eko.
